Our hike begins at the Sirimon Gate, where you’ll enter the dry side of Mt. Kenya known for its lush cedar forests and towering podocarpus trees. Here’s what to expect:
Start at Liki North Trail: The journey kicks off with a trek through montane forest, gradually transitioning into alpine terrain. You’ll ascend toward the Liki North Hut at 4,000m above sea level—a perfect spot to rest and soak in the tranquility of this secluded area.
Liki North Viewpoint: From here, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the valley and surrounding peaks. It’s a photographer’s paradise and an ideal place to catch your breath.
Join Shipton Route: After exploring Liki North Valley, we’ll loop back by connecting to the Shipton Route. This section offers incredible views of Mackinder’s Valley and towering rock formations as we make our way back.
The total distance covered is approximately 15km—a rewarding challenge for both seasoned hikers and adventurous beginners.

10:00AM: Reach at the Liki North Viewpoint, have your snacks and take photographs.
11:00AM: Reach at the Liki North Hut.

2:00PM: Reach Sirimin- Shipton trail and head for the gate
4:00PM: Arrive at the gate and depart.
6:30PM: Stop at Nyeri Town

Physical Fitness: Hiking to Ford Falls requires a moderate level of physical fitness.
Stretch and Warm Up: Before setting off, perform some light stretches and warm-up exercises to prevent injuries.
Check the Weather: The weather on Mount Kenya can be unpredictable. Check the weather forecast before your hike and be prepared for sudden changes in weather.
Strenuous Exercises: Refrain from strenuous exercises for days prior to the day of the hike.
Foot Care: Cut your toenails short for comfort in the boots and to avoid injuries.
Hydration: Hydrate adequately for 7 days prior to the hike.
Supplies: Stock your supplies (gear, snacks, equipment etc) the day before the hike, we only stop for emergencies.
